Practitioners took a deep-dive into each of the 6 leadership pledge commitments and the following key themes emerged from their discussions:
- Developing Action Plans: Strategies encompassed normalising conversations, clear messaging from leaders, supporting managers, utilising technology for monitoring, and measuring progress.
- Promoting Open Cultures: The emphasis was on normalising mental health discussions, fostering inter-generational dialogues, and leaders setting examples by prioritising work-life balance and demonstrating authenticity.
- Proactive Steps for Positive Mental Health: Empowering managers to create psychologically safe environments, defining behavioural competencies, and supporting managers’ well-being through training and resources were discussed.
- Empowering Individuals: Training for recognising signs of mental health issues, integrating mental health in annual health checks, and offering diverse support resources were key points.
- Signposting to Mental Health Resources: Encouraging early support-seeking behaviours, providing diverse support resources, and balancing technology with personal interactions were highlighted.
- Measuring Impact: Discussions emphasised data-driven approaches, shifting from late-stage markers to positive indicators, and leveraging data to make a business case for mental health interventions.
The Leadership Pledge: A Call to Action
During the event, participants were invited to sign the GBC’s Leadership Pledge—a commitment to prioritising workplace mental health within their organizations. The pledge encompasses actions like developing mental health action plans, promoting open cultures, addressing unhealthy work habits, and fostering inclusivity.
